What Is the Canton Fair?

The Canton Fair (officially the China Import & Export Fair) is the world's largest trade fair, held every spring and autumn in Guangzhou since 1957. With over 25,000 exhibitors from across China and buyers from 200+ countries, it is the single best place to source products, meet factories face-to-face, and discover new trends.

The fair is named after Guangzhou's historical identity as “Canton” — China's oldest and most important trading port. Beyond the exhibition halls, Guangzhou itself is a vibrant, food-obsessed city of 18 million people with deep historical roots and endless exploration opportunities.

📍 Near Pazhou Venue

Area around Xianggang / Xingangdong metro stations on Line 8. Walking distance or one stop to the venue. Most convenient but priciest.

Around Tianhe Sports Center or Zhujiang New Town. Best selection of international hotels, restaurants, and nightlife. 20–30 min by metro.

💰 Budget Option — Haizhu

Hotels in Haizhu district are generally cheaper. You're still close to the venue (10–15 min metro) with plenty of local restaurants.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for the Canton Fair?
Visit cantonfair.org.cn and click "Register for Attendance." Fill in your company details, upload a photo, and you will receive a QR code. You can also register on-site, but expect queues of 1–2 hours.
Do I need a visa to attend the Canton Fair?
Many nationalities are eligible for the 144-hour visa-free transit policy (Guangdong province). If you plan to stay longer, you will need a Chinese visa. Canton Fair does not issue invitation letters for visa purposes anymore — apply through your local Chinese embassy.
How many days should I spend in Guangzhou?
Minimum 3–4 days if you only attend the fair. Add 2–3 more days for sightseeing, food, and a day trip. Many buyers spend 7–10 days total.
Is English widely spoken in Guangzhou?
Not outside the fair grounds. Inside the Canton Fair complex, most exhibitors speak basic English. On the streets, have a translation app ready. Hotels and high-end restaurants are fine in English.
What's the weather like during the Canton Fair?
October in Guangzhou is warm and humid — average 22–29 °C (72–84 °F). Bring light, breathable clothing and an umbrella for occasional rain. Indoor venues are heavily air-conditioned, so a light jacket helps.
Can I visit factories around Guangzhou?
Absolutely. Many Canton Fair buyers schedule factory visits in the Pearl River Delta. We can arrange English-speaking guides and transport for factory visits in Foshan, Dongguan, Shenzhen, and Zhongshan.
